If want to learn more about the more technical aspects of brewing, including extraction theory and grind analysis, then this is the course for you!
Working closely with the SCA Brew Control Chart system, we will introduce the concept of scientifically measuring coffee extraction so that you will be able to understand and refine brews, ensuring that the coffee is properly extracted for an optimum flavour profile.
We will encourage you to experiment with a number of variables including water temperature, grind size, contact time and turbulence so that you can learn how to adapt the strength and extraction of a brew to achieve the required flavour. We will also look at water chemistry and consider which filter methods are the most suited to different water types.
You will finish this course with a full understanding of the elements involved in the brewing process.
• Brewing process
• Brewing & charting
• Brewing guidelines
• Effect of roasting
Candidates attending this course should already have a general understanding of brewing. SCA Foundation Brewing or SCA Introduction to Coffee would be ideal.
SCA Barista Skills Intermediate is a 2-day long course.
This course is globally accredited via the Speciality Coffee Association (SCA) and you can take the optional SCA Certified Exam at the end of the second day at an additional cost of £60 which will earn you 10 points towards your Coffee Skills Programme.
